The mission of the Wright Redux Association, based in Glen Ellyn, IL, is to reproduce the 1903
Wright Flyer
and fly it. No group has ever successfully built a working replica of the first-ever powered aircraft,
although
many have tried. Our objective is to build and fly our machine, Spirit of Glen Ellyn, in celebration
of the 100th
anniversary of the Wright Brothers first flight.
What have made this achievement possible are the generous contributions of many persons. The
spirit of
mid-western volunteerism has driven this project and is reflective of a key value of the
turn-of-the-century
when the Wright Brothers did their famous work.
After starting with a small but determined group in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, the list of volunteers
and
contributors has grown exponentially. See the partial list of significant
contributors.
